About the foundation

     In memory of Nylon Cheng and to continue promoting the ideology of Freedom of Speech, awakening the consciousness of Taiwan, invigorating Taiwan Culture, the Foundation (NCLF) was founded at the former office of Freedom Era Weekly, on April 6th, 1999, the eve of 10th anniversary of Nylon Cheng’s self immolation. The scope of NCLF.MM has three aspects. They are “Memorial Activities” (the museum and the cemetery), “Memories and Sites” (of historical events) and “Freedom and Human Rights”.

407 Memorial Day of Nylon Cheng’s Self-Immolation

     Each year on April 7th , we invite everyone to join the memorial activities held by NCLF at either the cemetery in Chin Pao Shan where the monument “Wing of Freedom” stands, or the Memorial Museum located at Liberty Lane, Taipei, Taiwan.

Wing of freedom

     On April 7, 2002, the 13th anniversary of Nylon’s self-immolation, the memorial cemetery was completed. Statue of Nylon, the monument “Wing of Freedom”, and the headstone: “Rather Burnt Out than Rusted Out” were stood to symbolize eternal remembrance, and to mark the footprints of Taiwan democracy.
